SmartSailor, Chimera Tech's platform for remote monitoring, predictive maintenance and intelligent boat management, will take part for the first time as an exhibitor at the Genoa International Boat Show, whose 66th edition runs from 1 to 6 October 2026.
The participation is part of the Lazio Region's 2026 Internationalisation Programme, managed by Lazio Innova, with a dedicated desk in the regional collective area.
At the centre of the presentation is the artificial intelligence agent that assists owners in managing their boat, together with the SmartBox on-board unit in its final configuration, a candidate for the Design Innovation Award promoted by Confindustria Nautica and I Saloni Nautici in the Electronics and Software category.
An AI agent that knows each individual boat
SmartSailor's AI agent is not a generic assistant: it is trained on the individual boat.
It knows the engine, systems and equipment manuals uploaded by the owner, continuously reads data coming from on board and keeps a history of maintenance and interventions.
Asked in natural language, it can explain a procedure step by step, summarise the status of batteries, solar charging and sensors in a single answer, and indicate what has already been done and what needs to be done next.
Every answer is built exclusively from that boat's documents and data and is clearly identified as generated by artificial intelligence.
Alongside the agent, the platform's analytical models recognise anomalies in the data and report them before they turn into failures.
SmartBox: connecting the boat to the platform
What makes all this possible is SmartBox, the on-board unit designed to be retrofitted to boats already in service without invasive modifications to existing systems.
It reads existing instrumentation through standard marine protocols in read-only mode and integrates it with sensors, cameras and actuators derived from home automation. Data is sent to a cloud platform hosted in the European Union.
The new three-layer enclosure, shown for the first time in Genoa, is designed for maintainability and installation in the tight spaces of existing boats.
From prototype to series configuration
The Genoa Boat Show comes at the end of a year that has taken the product from prototype to series configuration:
- filing of an Italian patent application for the system in December 2025;
- validation in service on several boats and at a marina;
- Qualitec Technology Award;
- “Un Mare di… Start-up” Gianneschi Innovation Prize received at Seatechnology 2026;
- presentation at CES 2026 in Las Vegas as part of the Italian delegation led by the ITA Agency.
B2B meetings and international development
In Genoa, the team will also take part in the B2B meeting programme with international operators organised by the ITA Agency, together with Confindustria Nautica and I Saloni Nautici, on 5 and 6 October.
Meetings are already scheduled with distributors and refit yards from the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Croatia, France and the United Arab Emirates, marking the first step in SmartSailor's European distribution programme.
“The value of an on-board system is not in how much data it collects, but in what it can tell you. We have built an agent that knows your boat better than any manual, because it has read them all and sees what happens on board every day. Presenting it for the first time at the Genoa Boat Show, in front of the owners and professionals who will use it, is the right way to start,” says Marco Chimenti, founder and CEO of Chimera Tech.
SmartSailor will be on display throughout the show at the Chimera Tech desk in the Lazio Region area, with the SmartBox unit on display and a live demonstration of the AI agent on the platform.
